Fresh soap made with trusted & safe ingredients!

Homemade small batch artisan soaps, made with safe and trusted ingredients! All Swan Soap Products are not tested on animals. Only willing humans and their offspring!

In an effort to do our part and help save the planet, here at Swan Soap Co, we attempt to limit the amount of waste we produce when creating your favorite bath and body products! We avoid disposable products, if at all possible and try to find recyclable material when necessary!

Not your typical bar soap.

Old Fashioned white bars of soap are boring, and life is too short to be boring*! Be the talk of the town and spice up your life with these unique artisan soaps! Not only are there fun swirls and designs in most every bar, but because they are made in small batches each one is unique! Each loaf of soap is poured by me and cut by hand, therefore colors and size may vary from the pictures somewhat!

*Unless you’re using our Old Fashioned bars to get stains out of your laundry, wash your face, or prefer a scent and colorant free bar due to skin sensitivities. Then it’s not boring!

“Is this Lye Soap”?

The short answer is, YES. I am asked this a minimum of ten times while at shows and I love explaining the process to customers. Lye gets a bad wrap, but when used correctly, makes amazing soap. So what makes it safe as soap? A chemical reaction called Saponification occurs when Sodium Hydroxide (lye) combines with fatty acids (oils). That chemical reaction breaks down the fatty acids which then neutralizes the lye solution, rendering a bar of soap that will be safe to use in 24-48 hours. The soap will then go through a hot or cold process and be ready to cut in just a day or two.

All soap must contain some form of lye in order for it to be considered a soap. Even melt and pour soap was made with lye before it was sold to the consumers. In fact, the FDA does not consider it soap unless it is made up of primarily cleansing alkalized oils. Most of the consumer cleansing items on the market are made without lye and therefore cannot be considered soap. They, instead, use Syndet (synthetic detergent)!

Although it is safe to use, we don’t recommend using a fresh bar of soap, unless you are in desperate need of a shower! In order to extend the longevity of the bar, we try to cure our soaps for 6 weeks prior to selling them. This creates a harder, longer lasting and more bubbly bar of soap! When you’re not using your soap, be sure to keep it dry and in a cool place, out of the stream of water! We have cedar soap dishes that can help with that!

Fun Fact: Did you know that lye is also used to make some breads, olives, pretzels and more?
